I am currently offering in-person and online appointments. If you would like to meet with me in my clinic room, I am available.
We all struggle from time to time. In any given year, one in four people are affected by mental health difficulties.
In today’s society we often think that asking for help is a sign of weakness, it is not. Seeking help is a sign of strength and can make all the difference in the world.
Counselling provides space and time to allow you to reflect on your life and who you are.
My approach
I work with both men and women who are stuck, in distress or in need of support.
Entering counselling is an act of courage but you will not be doing this alone. I will help you navigate what you are experiencing so that you can find ways to cope more easily.
As your counsellor, I will offer you a warm and non-judgemental space, where you can explore challenging thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Being listened to, understood and accepted in this way is rare in life, and in itself can lead to positive change.
Counselling is a collaborative process where I am guided by you on what we focus on: whether that be how you are affected by past influences or what is going on in your current life.
We will work towards making positive change so that you can enjoy your life more fully.
“Sunny helped me to regain control when I felt overwhelmed by life.” Anna
About me
I first discovered counselling in my early thirties when I was feeling overwhelmed with one of life’s more challenging events. The support I received was a revelation to me. The warmth, understanding and genuine care helped me to ground myself and find a way forward.
Inspired by my own experience, I underwent training in Humanistic Counselling and became a counsellor in 2012. Over the last decade I have worked for Community Services, IAPT providers, Employment Support schemes and set up my private practice.
I am a warm and sensitive counsellor. I work both in the short-term and the long-term, and anything in between. I have experience of supporting clients with a wide range of mental health issues including depression, generalised anxiety, health anxiety, grief, work-related stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and family problems.
I have worked alongside people of different age groups, supporting them with different chapters of their lives. I feel privileged to work with people as they share with me their rich experience of life, their uniqueness and their joys and sorrows.
My core approach is based on person-centred, existential and solution focussed brief counselling. Over time I have become more Integrative in my work, incorporating aspects of Psychodynamic therapy and CBT.
“I will always be grateful for the time, care and sensitivity you gave me in a dark period.” Adam
Beginning
Once you contact me I will offer you a short telephone call to discuss any queries you may have and you can see how it feels to talk to me. Alternatively, you may prefer to have this conversation by email or text. We will then arrange a first appointment.
Our first session is an opportunity for you to tell me what troubling you. You can ask me questions about the way forward and, together, we will start to identify challenges you would like to focus on during therapy. It’s also a time for us to get a sense of whether we are a good fit as therapist and client. At the end of the session we’ll talk about what it’s been like for you and how you’re feeling. You can then go away and think about whether you’d like to continue.
“You really got me. Thank you so much.” Sarah
Location
I work from a calming and private space: my garden room. On-street parking available.
