Counselling in Whitstable
Sunny Austin
I offer in-person counselling in Whitstable from a quiet, comfortable space where you can pause and begin to make sense of what’s happening for you.
You might be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or noticing patterns that keep repeating. In our work, we pay close attention to what’s happening as it unfolds, so you can begin to see things more clearly and respond differently.
My approach
I work with people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward.
In our sessions, we stay close to your experience as it happens - what you’re noticing, feeling, and how things shift moment to moment. I may slow things down at points, or bring attention to something you’ve just said, so we can explore it more fully.
I offer a steady, non-judgemental space where you can explore difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences without needing to rush or push yourself.
Our work is collaborative. You set the direction, and we focus on what feels most important - whether that’s understanding something more deeply, or finding a way forward that feels right for you.
I first came to counselling in my early thirties, during a difficult chapter in my life. I was overwhelmed and unsure how to move forward, but the support I received was life-changing.
The warmth, understanding, and genuine care I experienced helped me feel grounded again and begin to move on. That experience stayed with me, and eventually inspired me to train as a counsellor.
About me
I qualified in Humanistic Counselling in 2012. Since then, I’ve worked with a wide range of people across NHS Talking Therapies, community services, employment support schemes, and in private practice.
Over the years, I’ve supported people with a range of challenges, including:
depression and low mood
general and health anxiety
grief and loss
work-related stress
low self-esteem
family and relationship difficulties
I have worked alongside people of different ages and backgrounds, often during times of change, loss, or uncertainty.
My approach is grounded in person-centred and existential thinking, and has developed into an integrative way of working that stays focused on each person’s individual experience.
“I will always be grateful for the time, care and sensitivity you gave me in a dark period.” Adam
Once you get in touch, I’ll offer a short phone call so you can ask questions and get a sense of how I work.
If you prefer, we can have this first conversation by email or text instead.
We’ll then arrange your first in-person appointment.
Your first session is a chance to talk about what’s troubling you and begin to identify what you’d like to focus on.
Beginning therapy
It’s also an opportunity for us both to get a sense of whether we’re a good fit. We’ll also get a sense of whether we’re a good fit.
At the end of the session, we’ll check in about how it felt, and you can decide whether you’d like to continue.
You really got me. Thank you so much.” Sarah
